| This dress was actually begun several years ago, one summer during college when I worked at Cracker Barrel. It was my second attempt at making a T-tunic using these instructions: . (My first attempt was Not Right. Of course, it's not nearly as bad as I thought it was then, and is going to be redesigned soon.)
I did do a few things differently with this one than I did with the earlier attempt. When I found it in my sewing stash, the sleeves and the four main body panels had been basted together. I think I may have used a slightly different pattern, because the sleeves were cut without gussets. (Change number one.) I added hip-high gores at the sides and a double gore in back, leaving the front flat. (This actually does wonders to hide hips!) Change number two; the first one had gores going up to my waist, which looked funny on me. My third major change was how it fastened. Originally, I had planned to lace it up the back, but I decided it was faster and easier to just insert an invisible zipper. So I did.
When I started actually putting this dress together, I had planned to wear it with a brown sideless surcoat to be a "quick and dirty" version of Eowyn's dress worn on the way to Helm's Deep. When I ended up not going to help with the Two Towers premier, I decided to make it more of my own. So I ditched the surcoat and am slowly adding leaves to the neck and wrists.
