Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: Moulin Rose: Rose Petal Skirt
To give the effect of being a flower, the skirt is made up of "rose petals" attached to a base skirt. To make the petals, I taped newspaper together and drew out a petal shape, which I then traced onto my satin. Rose pink satin for the underside, cranberry satin for the upperside. My original idea was to have the top layer of petals all pink and the bottom all cranberry, but I decided this had a better effect, especially since the petticoat is rose pink as well.

The bottom row of petals (there are six) is attached to a short skirt, the length of the one from view B. Instead of making it a full circle skirt, though, I used just the two side panels. Each of the bottom petals was slightly gathered at the top so that they fit around the circumference without overlaping.

The other four petals were overlapped around the waist. They were sewn onto the waistband first, then the waistband was sewn to the rest of the skirt. (I did it this way because one petal needed to reach the end of the waistband where it overlapped on the end, in order to help cover up the gap at the side.)
