Clothing a Star Wars Obsession: Moulin Rouge: Hindi Wedding: The Necklace
One of the two essential accessories for this costume, the Maharaja's gift to his Hindi courtesan. And probably the most gorgeous thing I've put together so far.

Borrowing an idea from the incredibly talented Michaela, I used pre-existing jewelry to assemble it. Specifically, a hip belt and tikka cap I bought on eBay from UniqueEssentials. I'm really happy with both pieces; they're very lightweight (and they were also made in India!). The nose ring didn't actually get used; it just came with the tikka cap.

The inner section consists of most of the tikka cap. I removed the links for attaching it to the hair at the center, and the jump rings making the lower swags.

The outer layer is six repeats of the hip belt design, starting from the end with the hook clasp. I somewhat centered it with the center tikka. I also removed the longer of each double swag; the excess bits got used elsewhere.

Three of the excess sections of chain I removed from the hip belt became the choker portion of the necklace. It's attached to either end of the hip belt, and at the center and sides of the tikka cap. So that it would lie properly, I joined the choker and the tikka medallian with one of the bits from the unused tikka chain.

For the clasp, I used the hook end of the hip belt, and reattached the dangling chain from the other end of the belt. Very easy, and I didn't have to buy anything fancy.
